This time it comes in the form of recognition by the travel site Agoda. Considering that the bay in a sea based feature, to be named in 4th place of a list of the finest green spaces and National Parks in asia is quite extraordinary.

Introducing Ha Long Bay – Vietnam’s impressive World Natural Heritage

The bay consists of 600 square miles of sea, dotted with one thousand nine hundred and sixty limestone karst islands. It is well accepted as one of the most beautiful places on earth in tours of Vietnam. Hạ Long Bay is a member of the Club of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World.

In 1962 Hạ Long Bay was designated a ‘Renowned National Landscape Monument’, by the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism.

UNESCO inscribed it onto their list of World Heritage Sites both in 1994, in recognition of its “outstanding, universal aesthetic value”, and again in 2000, for its “outstanding geological and geomorphological value”.

In October 2011, the bay was included on the 2012 World Monuments Watch, by World Monuments Fund. The pressures of high numbers of tourists and associated development were seen as threats to the site that needed to be addressed in Vietnam tours. The aim of Watch-listing is to ensure promotion of strategies needed to see responsible heritage-driven development, working toward a sustainable future.

The Swiss based New Seven Wonders Foundation held a global poll in 2012 to find the ‘Seven Wonders of Nature’, Halong Bay made it on to this list, with ease.
