If you’ve ever heard of a floating market, Phuoc Kien padoga,…, it’s a good idea to plan a trip at Mekong Delta tours.

1. Cai Be floating market (Tien Giang)

Floating market in Tien Giang province is the place where boats come to exchange goods. This place retains the character of cultural activities of the Mekong Delta region.

It is bordered by three provinces: Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long, one of the three largest wholesale markets in the South West besides Cai Rang floating market and Nga Bay.

Cai Be floating market is active throughout the day, and it acts as a freight station to transfer fruits and specialties to all regions. The goods here are cheap (not to say dirt cheap). The uniqueness of the floating market is the way they visibly announce what they sell. Thanks to “cay beo”- the horizontal bamboo beam with hanging foods/produce, market-goers easily realize where offers what they need from quite a far distance.

The goods here are very diverse and abundant, especially the fruit because Cai Be has the most fruits in Tien Giang. Boats and large freights from Ho Chi Minh City, Ca Mau, Vinh Long, An Giang and Can Tho come here to buy.

People who love tranquility can visit the floating market in the afternoon. At that period of the day, you should go about 4 pm to enjoy the activities on the water surface when the sun gradually buries itself under horizons. You will have moments of inner peace at dusk. This time of the day has a tinge of somewhat poetic and sad…

2. Phuoc Kien Pagoda – Lotus Pagoda (Dong Thap)

Hoa Tan commune, Chau Thanh district (Dong Thap province)

The small temple named Phuoc Kien, there is a strange lotus species there. The flower has different names such as King Lotus, bamboo tray sieve- shaped lotus, round-leaf lotus according to the way locals think because no one knows what is the real name of this water lily’s cousins.

There have a small pond in front of the pagoda and a large one on the side of the back. Strange lotus flowers, giant leaves look like big curls near the beautiful hands at that site. Without witnessing with your untrained eyes, it is doubtful that underneath of the huge lotus leaf there must be a sturdy steel support/frame so that people weighing over 50kg can stand on it.

The master monk there told a lot of stories about the King Lotus, the precious flamingo and the sacred tortoise in the temple. Though the bird has long lost, he saved some rare pictures capturing the ideal moments when these beautiful animals rested on the giant leaves.

About the revered tortoise, it weighed hundreds of kilograms, and so popular that the whole region has the knowledge of. At war, people brought it far away to butcher, but then the tortoise somehow fought to gain freedom and traveled tens of kilometers back to the pagoda! After it passed away for too old, the whole animal was reserved and displayed in the most respected area of the site.

3. Mong Tay island

Hon Nong Tay is located in Duong Hoa Commune, Kien Luong District, off the coast of Kien Giang Province, north of Phu Quoc Island, between the Ba Lua and the Hai Tac Islands. During the war, this was the refuge of the homeless. This island does not concentrate crowded population due to extreme conditions these days.

However, it becomes an attractive factor for visitors who want to enjoy the feeling of “loneliness” or couples wanting to find absolute privacy.

Listen to Robinson’s anecdote

When you come here, you can also explore the “myth” of a real Vietnamese Robinson. That is the story of An – “The Lord of the island” who was in his forties and dubbed “the blind knight”. He is the man who brought life to this deserted island for 13 years. Although not visible, he can swim alone from the island to the inland and still survived devoid of food and water…

These facts surely urge you to explore beautiful places in Vietnam. Don’t wait anymore check it out and travel with our Vietnam Tours!
