Ho Chi Minh City - Cu Chi Tunnels

After enjoying your breakfast, your private guide will meet you and accompany you on a drive to Cu Chi, a quaint community located 60km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City. Cu Chi is renowned for its extensive network of tunnels, which served as a strategic hideout and infiltration route for the Viet Cong during the latter stages of the Vietnam War.

Upon arrival, you'll have the opportunity to watch a brief introductory video from the era before delving into the tunnels themselves, widely recognized as one of the world's most significant battlegrounds. This hidden labyrinth of Viet Cong tunnels spans "hundreds of miles" in total length, featuring living quarters, storage facilities, makeshift hospitals, kitchens, and more. While some sections of the tunnels remain narrow as originally constructed, others have been widened to accommodate tourists like yourself, offering you the chance to explore a portion of this remarkable system.

Following your exploration of the Cu Chi Tunnels, you'll be transferred back to the city, where you'll enjoy a delicious lunch at Local restaurant.

As the afternoon unfolds, you'll embark on a journey to discover some of Ho Chi Minh City's most iconic landmarks. See the Reunification Palace, a monumental witness to the culmination of the intense Vietnam War in 1975, now transformed into a museum and official reception hall.

Adjacent to the Palace we admire the Notre Dame Cathedral and the colonial-styled Central Post Office.  The War Remnants Museum offers fascinating insights into the Vietnamese struggle for independence, freedom and peace during the Vietnam War, with exhibits showcasing weapons, documents and photographs – a place to also learn of the locals’ perspective of the War.

Conclude your day with a visit to Ben Thanh Market, an iconic symbol of the city. Pulsating with the energy of commerce and cultural vibrancy, where the rhythmic bargaining and the aromas of street food intertwine, Ben Thanh Market creates a bustling concerto of sights and scents that encapsulates the essence of Vietnamese urban life. Early this morning, continental breakfast will be served. The sampan will arrives to Mekong Cruise for a cruise through the fascinating Cai Rang floating market. The sampan will weave in and out of the many boats that sail into the market each morning to sell produce and other items the residents of the Mekong Delta need in their daily lives. As they weave through the market, there will be many opportunities for amazing photographs while enjoying fresh fruit, the Vietnamese “anti-aging drink, " and” fresh coconut water. We will also stop at a local dry noodle-making house to witness the unique process of making them. We will then return to the ship for a well-deserved Breakfast.

Woven in many homes around the village, we can see the weaving process under several homes. Some villagers are also embroidery artists, displaying their art in and around their homes. The inhabitants of this area had only encountered a few Western visitors before the arrival of the Mekong Princess; they are especially friendly and welcoming. We will also visit the local temple dedicated to a unique religion founded in this area of Vietnam, Hoa Hao.

This evening, the Mekong Cruise will arrive at the border to complete exit procedures and continue up the Mekong River to Phnom Penh (the capital of Cambodia)

Phnom Penh Sightseeing

This morning, the Mekong Cruise will arrive at the border to complete exit procedures and continue up the Mekong River to Phnom Penh (capital of Kingdom Cambodia). You can enjoy the fascinating scenery on both sides of the Mekong River. After completing immigration procedures to Cambodia, local cyclo drivers meet you for an exciting city tour of Phnom Penh. Following a short break, your cyclos will take you to the National Museum. Housing the most extensive pre-Angkorian and Angkorian holdings in Cambodia, the National Museum ends the morning tour with a comprehensive look at many of the artifacts excavated around the Angkor Archeological Area in Siem Reap, as well as other areas around the former Khmer Empire. The ship docks in Phnom Penh overnight.

You may walk through the fields, visit the small museum and Memorial Stupa, and learn more about the atrocities committed during the Khmer Rouge regime. On the return drive to Phnom Penh, a stop is made at Tuol Sleng (infamously known as S-21), which the Khmer Rouge converted from a large school to a prison and torture headquarters.

This afternoon is free at leisure to explore the charming city of Phnom Penh.

This evening before dinner, enjoy the entertainment onboard with a cultural performance including Apsara, Cambodia’s national dance, and several traditional folk dances. The ship docks in Phnom Penh overnight.

Then we keep visiting a local family’s home to meet them and discuss their lifestyle. We continue through the village to the local school, where we join the children in their classrooms and experience their typical school day. The ship sails to Kampong Cham and docks overnight.

The magnificent roots of ancient trees, entwined with the temple's massive stone blocks, evoke feelings that will linger in your memory.

Next, venture to the meticulously carved Khmer ruins at Angkor Wat, one of the world's most impressive archaeological sites. This temple, adorned with exquisite Apsara carvings, is a testament to Khmer art from the Angkorian era.

Your journey continues with an exploration of the enigmatic Royal City of Angkor Thom. Admire the awe-inspiring Bayon Temple, known for its 54-tower structure that offers an otherworldly sight. As you delve deeper, you will discover a multitude of serene faces gazing out through half-closed eyes, each representing a primitive and distant time.

Explore the surrounding areas, including Baphou, Elephant Terraces, Lipper King Terrace, and the Royal Palace Enclosure. You will also visit Preah Khan Temple, an architectural marvel constructed by King Jayavarman VII in the 12th century.
