Dong Xuan Market in Hanoi
Dong Xuan market in Hanoi’s Old Quarter was the first market in Hanoi. Its history is closely associated with the trade development of Hanoi. It is not just a market but also a cultural venue that reflects the lifestyle of Hanoians. So it won’t be acceptable if you ignore this fancy market in yourtours to Hanoi.
Following a huge fire in 1994, the market was rebuilt over 2 years. Now, the market has 3 storeys covering an area of approximately 9,600 square meters. The front retains its original architecture. There are three entrances in the front and 2 on both sides on the ground floor and two open staircases leading to the market. Inside the market, there is a modern elevator and 5 staircases.
Dong Xuan market of Hanoi
The renowned Dong Xuan Market in downtown Hanoi has long been a favorite shopping place for Hanoians and Vietnamese and foreigners visiting the capital city.
Before, Dong Xuan Market used to be a busy trade center that attracted buyers from France, Spain, India and other countries.
The market is now the biggest wholesale market in the capital. At the market one can find electronic products, home appliances, garments and fabric. Along the back wall live animals are also sold.
Dong Xuan is always crowded. A night market now takes place along one street which changes name from Hang Ngang to Hang Dao midway. It was created in recent years to attract more people to the old quarter. Here one can find both expensive and cheap items, and also interesting souvenirs. And if you come to Dong Xuan night market, you may have chance to enjoy the traditional performances like Xam singing, Cheo theater, and Quan Ho folk duet singing.
