Types Of Tours Dragon Bay Cruise Halong Bay

Halong Bay

Halong Bay

Currently, Dragon Bay offers three tours:

  • Halong Cruise 2 Days 1 Night

  • Halong Cruise 3 Days 2 Nights

  • Halong & Cat Ba Cruise 3 Days 2 Nights

Personally, I prefer the two 3D2N tours because their itineraries include more hidden sites. The 2D1N tour is also worth the money but is a bit short if you want to explore Halong Bay fully.

Regarding the difference between the two 3D2N tours above, the Halong & Cat Ba tour has an extended journey to explore Cat Ba Island after going through all corners of Halong Bay.

To better visualize these tours, read on to learn more about my experiences on each one!

The first trip I experienced on Dragon Bay Cruise was a 2D1N tour with my family two years ago. Overall, it was a great adventure.

Day 1: Halong Bay, Dark & Light Cave, Lan Ha Bay, Sunset Party, cooking class, squid fishing

Lan Ha Bay

Lan Ha Bay

The day began with a pick-up from my hotel in Hanoi. By 11:30 AM, our group arrived at Tuan Chau Harbor.

Then, a warm welcome awaited us, complete with a refreshing welcome drink. The cruise manager then took the reins, delivering a comprehensive briefing on the itinerary and safety measures.

The excitement escalated as we checked into our cabins, each boasting a private balcony and full-size ocean-view windows.

At 1:00 PM, we enjoy a sumptuous lunch as the cruise set sail into the serene expanses of Halong Bay. The cruise's route led us past iconic landmarks such as the Finger and Candle Islets.

The day's highlight was in the afternoon, around 3:30 PM, when we ventured into Lan Ha Bay. The Dark & Light Cave, renowned for its pristine beauty, showcased the poetic charm of the region.

I then had the opportunity to capture the romantic seascapes by exploring the bay through kayaking while others chose to ride boats.

After taking great photos, the emerald-like waters of Lan Ha Bay beckoned us for a refreshing swim. So, we immersed ourselves in the beauty of the azure sky and mountains.

When returning to the ship, we joined a magical Sunset Party. The ambiance, temperature, and sheer magnificence of nature created an unforgettable moment.

The afternoon was followed by a cooking demonstration, where the cruise chef showcased the art of crafting traditional Vietnamese dishes. We participated in a friendly cooking competition. It was fun and interactive!

In the evening, we had a deluxe dinner featuring delicious local cuisine. The night view of Lan Ha Bay, accompanied by the ocean's soothing sound, added a touch of enchantment to the dining experience.

After dinner, I joined squid fishing while others enjoyed drinks at the bar. We really did not waste a single minute on this cruise.

Day 2: Tai Chi class, Tra Bau

In My Tai Chi Class

In My Tai Chi Class

I woke up at 6:00 AM to participate in a Tai Chi class. I had never done these exercises before, so I was very interested. Refreshed my mind and body while watching the sunrise; that morning was wonderful!

Following the Tai Chi session, we had a light breakfast as the cruise continued its journey, passing by the stunning karst towers that define the landscape of Halong Bay.

What I remember most about that morning was when we embarked on a visit to Tra Bau. A small boat took us to this unique village. The tour guide told me it was a filming spot for Kong in 2018.

When arriving, I kayaked around the village for an up-close encounter with the daily life of local fishermen and fishing methods.

As I glided through the waters, the conveyor boat slowly passed by the pearl village. I then had the opportunity to gain insights into the cultivation of pearls by the local community.

By 9:30 AM, we reluctantly bid farewell to the village and returned to the cruise for the checking out process.

At 10:00 AM, we got a well-prepared brunch on board while the ship continued its journey. The leisurely pace of the cruise allowed me to soak in the final moments of the captivating scenery.

The journey back to the harbor began around 11:30 AM. Then, we arrived at the hotel in the late afternoon, at around 4:30 PM.

After having a good experience the first time, I decided to return to Halong a second time on this cruise for a longer duration.

Day 1: Halong Bay, Dark & Light Cave, Lan Ha Bay, Sunset Party, cooking class, squid fishing

The itinerary is similar to Day 1 in the Halong two-day-one-night tours.

Day 2: Tai Chi class, Viet Hai Village, Three Peaches Beach, Lan Ha Bay

Viet Hai Village

Viet Hai Village

Like the previous 2D1N tour, I joined the Tai Chi class at 6:00 AM. This class also allowed for a photo hunt, capturing the magical moments as the sun rose.

For those who had marveled at the sunset the previous afternoon, the sunrise over the bay was a spectacle not to be missed.

The day officially began at 7:00 AM with a light breakfast. Then, we explored Cat Ba. Instead of following the usual route, the captain steered the ship through a hidden path that revealed the region's natural beauty and culture.

At around 8:30 AM, we were transferred to the day tour ship and visited Viet Hai Village. There, the tour guide arranged a biking activity through rice fields.

While riding the bike, I had a chance to discover this peaceful village where time seemed to stand still. What made me appreciate this visit was the locals welcomed us and even allowed us to explore their houses.

By 12:00 PM, we returned to the day tour ship for lunch. After lunch, we visit Three Peaches Beach, a secluded gem in Lan Ha Bay.

Here, the turquoise waters and white sandy shores invited me to swim. I quickly changed into my swimsuit and soaked in the cool water. Others partook in kayaking.

At around 4:30 PM, we returned to the ship just in time to witness the sunset over Lan Ha Bay. Whenever I think back to that afternoon, images of a cocktail, soft music, and sunlight always appear.

After dinner, instead of going for squid fishing like on my 2D1N tour, I just immersed myself in music on a chair and stargazed with a cocktail glass. As I retired to my cabin for the night, I was happy and satisfied with the journey.

Day 3: Tai Chi class, Tra Bau

On Day 3

On Day 3

The final day of my 3D2N Dragon Bay Cruise began with the promise of another captivating sunrise. Rising early, I joined the Tai Chi class at 6:00 AM and had breakfast afterward as usual.

At around 8:00 AM, we explored Tra Bau on a small boat. In this village, I engaged in kayaking activities to navigate the surrounding areas, interacted with local fishermen, explored fish rafts, gained insights into fishing methods, and visited the Pearl Village.

By 9:30 AM, I returned to the cruise and checked out from my cabin. At 10:00 AM, I had the last brunch while admiring blue waters and green mountains on the journey back towards the harbor.

The cruise made its way back to the harbor at around 12:00 PM. Then, we had a highway journey to Hanoi and arrived around 4:3 PM.

As I returned to my hotel, I couldn't help but reflect on the past three days filled with awe-inspiring landscapes and cultural explorations.

Halong & Cat Ba Cruise 3 Days 2 Nights

Because my parents like Cat Ba so much, I booked this tour so my whole family could explore this island while still being able to visit Halong Bay.

Day 1: Halong Bay, Dark & Light Cave, Lan Ha Bay, Sunset Party, cooking class, squid fishing

The itinerary is similar to the Day 1 in the 2D1N and Halong 3D2N tours.

Day 2: Three Peaches Beach, Cat Ba

Cat Ba

Cat Ba

This morning's itinerary is similar to the Halong 3D2N itinerary above. However, the afternoon held a distinctive twist.

After relaxing at Three Peaches Beach at 4:00 PM, a new adventure awaited as we were transferred by bus to a hotel in Cat Ba to check into the hotel.

After checking in, it was free time to discover the island. My family went to Thien Cung Fortress, which offered a vantage point to witness the stunning sunset over the sea.

At night, we strolled along the beach. A unique mode of transportation in the Cat Ba night scene was the mini rickshaws.

Both kids and adults revealed the joy of pedaling around the central road, a 2 km stretch, enjoying the cool sea breeze, and relishing a restful night's sleep.

Seafront restaurants sparkled with lights reflecting on the water, each lively with visitors savoring fresh seafood straight from the sea. After we were tired, we returned and had a good sleep.

Day 3: Monkey Island

Monkey Island

Monkey Island

The third and final day began with a wake-up call and breakfast at the hotel.

From 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, we had free time to explore the island. Opting for a visit to Monkey Island, we embarked on a short boat ride from Beo Pier, approximately 10 minutes away.

Monkey Island, the second-largest island in the Cat Ba archipelago, welcomed us with its natural beauty. We even had time to stop by Cat Dua Beach to unwind and soak up the sun and the coastal splendor.

As the clock approached 11:00 AM, we reluctantly checked out of the hotel. At 12:30 PM, we boarded a bus that would take us from Cat Ba back to Hanoi. We arrived at Hanoi around 3:00 PM.

As I returned to my hotel, I carried not just souvenirs but a collection of stories, snapshots, and a deep appreciation for the wonders that had unfolded on this trip.

Dragon Bay Cruise Halong Bay Reviews

Dragon Bay Cruise Reviews

Dragon Bay Cruise Reviews

All the Dragon Bay Cruises I have experienced were all delightful adventures.

All began with the staff's warm welcome and the convenience of a clean and comfortable bus from my hotel to Halong Bay. The staff's friendliness was evident from the start. Five stars for attitude!

On my 3D2N trip, the hostess, Jenny, went above and beyond to ensure my stay was not only enjoyable but memorable. Her hospitality added a personal touch, making me feel at home from the get-go.

As I stepped on board, the ship revealed interiors that surpassed the standards of some hotels on my travel list. Opting for the boutique ship was indeed a wise decision. The ship's attention to detail in the design and the overall atmosphere exuded a unique charm.

The highlight was the lovely patio extending right over the water. It provided the perfect spot to observe the mesmerizing marine life, with squid and fish becoming my companions in the tranquil night.

When it came to dining, the ship didn't disappoint. The food was delicious and offered various options to cater to different tastes.

While drinks at the bar required a separate purchase, the prices were reasonable. So I could enjoy a refreshing beverage while taking in the scenic views.

In all three times booking the Dragon Bay Cruise, I chose the Junior room on the ground floor and it was a haven of beauty and cleanliness. A bonus was the ship anchoring away from the lively party boats, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep.

Then, the flexibility and helpfulness of the staff stood out as they assisted us in arranging a detour to Cat Ba instead of returning to Hanoi.

Our guide, Harry, was energetic and lively; he kept us informed about the activities and ensured the atmosphere remained lively throughout. His informative guidance enhanced our understanding of the surroundings.

One problem I encountered in my 2D1N tour was rain. Surprisingly, the crew, including Captain Hien and Tutu, even arranged a comfortable cabin for us to relax in while waiting for the boat's return.

Overall, my time on board this cruise was wonderful, and the experience exceeded my expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a remarkable adventure on Halong Bay.
