Put your concerns aside and follow the Mekong Delta map to enjoy a wonderful vacation
No wonder why Mekong Delta is called the “Rice Bowl” of all Vietnam, traveling to anywhere here, you will see the appearance of continuous rice fields lying side by side, like a large green carpet (or yellow carpet when it comes to the harvest season of this large delta) made by Nature’s skillful hands.
But where is the Mekong Delta?
There’s a place in the Southern Vietnam where the Mekong River which is often called nine sprawling river flows by and so forms one of the most fertile deltas of Vietnam, Mekong Delta. This delta is the kingdom of rivers. Daily life here flows with the ever-changing waters, fisheries thrive during the annual flood and rice fields are quickly dug as the waters recede.

Despite being a countryside area, Mekong Delta also owns a lot of developed cities that play very important roles in the economy of the region.
So in today’s journey, let’s find out the 3 most eventful cities of the list of what cities are located in Mekong Delta area and their potentials in local tourism!
1. Can Tho city, Can Tho
This is a large city. Similar to other Vietnamese cities in the Delta, the central area (along Hai Ba Trung street) really comes alive after the sun goes down. During the day don’t expect to see much interesting, after dark the area becomes a gathering point for locals and tourists and a great place to just hang out and shop the numerous authentic Vietnamese stores or eat at the restaurants, some of them offering really excellent value for the money.
The modern Can Tho city
Cai Rang Floating Market is the main wholesale floating market near Can Tho, and takes place before and around dawn each day. It’s literally floating in the middle of a fairly large river, far from the riverbanks, which are lined with private houses and shops.

Therefore, you will absolutely have to get on a boat in order to appreciate this floating market. If you don’t want to pay foreign tourist prices for a tour from Ninh Kieu, you can hire a taxi. However, don’t simply ask to go to Cai Rang Floating Market, as you’ll likely end up at a random deserted riverbank where the driver’s buddy will try to sell you an overpriced floating market tour.
2. Rach Gia city, Kien Giang
Rach Gia is a coastal city, this area is now home to a lot of coffee shops and restaurants where tourists can eat and drink while enjoying sea breezes. This is also a place to admire a magnificent view of the sun setting.
Nguyen Trung Truc temple and many historical tales going along with it
Rach Gia has been known for Nguyen Trung Truc Temple and the festival to commemorate the death anniversary of the national hero Nguyen Trung Truc, a great patriot of Vietnam, who contributed a considerable effort in the anti-French Resistance War of Vietnam.
Besides, when coming here, you will also have chance to enjoy the folk music, such as Cai Luong or Don Ca Tai Tu, a spiritual specialty of the Southern part of Vietnam
3. Long Xuyen city, An Giang
Long Xuyen is the second largest city in the Mekong delta, the capital of An Giang province and at the same time the center for politics, economy and culture. There are many lively markets, which are quite interesting for visitors. In the evening lighted streets invite for an extensive walk. From the spacious promenade you will have a nice view at the colorful, numerous floating villages, under which fish is cultivated.
The Caodaism temple in Long Xuyen, An Giang
There is also a large, very interesting floating market with the impressive market hall of Long Xuyen in the background. In Long Xuyen you can also visit the largest Catholic church in Mekong Delta and the temple of Caodaism.
Sounds very interesting, right! So let’s take your backpack and go to Mekong Delta right away!
