In Central Vietnam, just a few miles in from the coast, on the banks of the Perfume River, you will find the wonderful city of Hue. Steeped in history, this former Imperial Capital of the Nguyen Dynasty, is a fascinating place to visit. It was also the national capital of Vietnam prior to 1945, when the communist government was established in Hanoi tours, upon the abdication of Emperor Bao Dai.

Hue tours – Experience travel and famous destinations

There is much to see and do in this wonderful old town, here are just a few suggestions:

Complex of Hue Monuments – a world cultural heritage

No visit to Hue can even be contemplated without seeing the Complex of Ancient Monuments. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, though heavily damaged during the war, is a fascinating look back in history. The central Citadel here, was the seat of power for the Nguyen Emperors. During their reign only the Emperors, their concubines and those granted special permission were allowed to enter. The punishment for trespassing was death.

Tombs should visit when coming to Hue

The Tombs of the Emperors, including Minh Mang, Khai Dinh and Tu Duc lie just along the Perfume River to the south of the city. Access is best gained by boat, which makes for a pleasant journey in itself. The tombs are amongst the most sacred in Vietnam tours.

Take a stroll along the Perfume River in the evening. This is a delightful way to spend a few hours. If you are lucky enough to be in Hué during the Autumn you will understand where the river gets its name from. At this time of year, blossoms from orchards up stream, drop into the water and float past Hué, bringing their heady aroma with them.

Thien Mu Pagoda – The sacred temple on the Perfume River

The Thien Mu Pagoda is just over the river from the town and is the official symbol of Hué. This magnificent building houses some fine examples of gold and silver Buddha images. The name means celestial woman and refers to an old legend regarding the founding of the pagoda.
