An American restaurateur used to say that “Vietnam doesn’t really have a restaurant culture”. For me, it’s not an insult at all but a very interesting way to introduce the national culinary, however this time not about how delicious food taste but the way people enjoying it, a very Vietnamese style, a street food style. Then when you make a Vietnam tour, don’t miss any chance to experience the quintessence of Vietnamese cuisine with street food.

Just ask yourself if you underestimate street food? Vietnamese cuisine is no more a secret but a, impressive phenomenon. Banh mi, Pho, Bun cha, Goi cuon… Che, Douhua, Chingboleung… from main dish to dessert, all these world-famous Vietnamese specialties are all street foods worth of Michelin star. That’s enough to show how amazing street food taste.

1-1
Have you ever experienced a punishment of your stomach when passing a street food stall? You can easily see that street food vendor prepare and cook fresh ingredients right on the sidewalk. It’s not the matter if the boiling oil sound of food, the fragrant smoke of grilled meat, and the attractive smell of a hot pot of Pho… make your mouth watering. I honestly think that is the secret charm of street food in Vietnam.

Food is no doubt the key, but the art of cooking is also the soul of any recipe and of course any delicious dish. Vietnamese people is good and enjoying life then how can they miss such a treat of enjoying food. Though you have not experienced yet but it’s easy to imagine. How do you think about sitting right next to the “chef”, concurrently the service staff and the cashier, and admiring the way your delicacy made? Trust me, it’s a very interesting way to learn not only about the art of cooking but also the culture and the people. Our vendor is very friendly, in case of there not busy, they turn themselves into amateur guide who are willing to tell you about something amazing that you should not miss and sometimes shocking cultural stories.

If you are not an extrovert, it’s okay too. By visiting a street food stall, you already found a nice place to observe the lively life of habitants. If you are in town, you can feel like that the time stop only for you when people still get caught up in the daily hustle and bustle of life. But everything will change when you are in the countryside, specifically visiting a village. The rush and pressure of modern life is nowhere to be found as well as the world is not too loud anymore… Sitting on the sidewalk, enjoying good food and watching the performance of life.

Adult love street food, student love street food, children love street food. Street food is really the soul and the key secret of Vietnamese gastronomy. It’s no exaggeration to say that street food is a perfect mirror reflecting the colorful culture and the beautiful way of life of citizens. If during the day, food stalls on side walk seemingly appears as a home kitchen, the nightlife there is a whole new story. It’s the best place to entertain, to have dinner, to drink beer, to relax… What a satisfying feelings!
