The night train to Lao Cai station

20.30pm –AsiaTourAdvisor’s tour guide come to pick you up from your hotel then transfer to Ha Noi Railway Station and catch the night train to Lao Cai (overnight on the train, the cabin with 4 berths sharing cabin, soft sleeper and air-conditioning). Arrive Lao Cai 5:30 or 6:00am.

Sapa is the focal point for mountain travel in Vietnam, and is a riot of colour and atmosphere as people from the myriad ethnic minorities of the hills gather in the markets.

The 'Flower Hmong' wear rainbow-coloured smocks, while the Red Dao's traditional costume is a more muted indigo but topped off with a bright red headdress. When all of the mountain people congregate, the result is a feast for the eyes and the senses.

*** It takes about 9 hours to go from Hanoi to Sapa by night train.

Lao Cai – Sapa – Ma Tra – Ta Phin Village

The train arrives at around 6:00 am. Look for the “AsiaTourAdvisor’s Logo & Your Name” sign when you exit the train station, as our guide will pick you up there and transfer to the former hill station of Sapa. In the terraced hills and mountains of this area, the expansive green landscape is enlivened by the colors of its hill tribe population - flashes of shining silver jewelry from the necks and wrists of indigo-clad H'mong and the scarlet hues of the turbans worn by the Red Dao can be seen. It is here you will find hands stained with color from fabric dyes and shades of blue, red and green intricately embroidered and stitched into jackets, waistcoats, pants, skirts, caps, purses and leggings.

After having breakfast at local restaurant, you will leave your luggage at hotel and then start trekking from Sapa to Ta Phin valley. Walking through the town for about 20 minutes before turning to a dirt road to Ma Tra, where inhabited by Black H'mong ethic. Continue trekking up the village and getting through paddies fields will lead you to an ancient Catholic abbey, built by French colonists.

Walk 2 km more to reach Ta Phin Village for exploring the daily life of Red Dzao. Here you have a good choices to buy woven and textile brocades, which is made by ethic people and having picnic lunch before exploring village and Ta Phin Cave and small hamlet of Black H'mong people. At the end of day, return to Sapa by van with group to check in to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure for explore the town, its market and sloping streets with all the colorful handicrafts.Rest of the afternoonand evening at leisure.

You will see the ethnic people gather to buy and sell goods, dine and drink, or just wander to enjoy the ambience of the montagnard market by the Chay River.

After spending around 2hours by car. Arrive the Coc Ly market; join local ethnic peoples of the morning to enjoy the exciting atmosphere as well as activities of this weekly market. Have lunch at local restaurant. Continue with the boat trip on Chay River. Enjoy scenic view from river and trek to Dzao, Tay minority villages. Good bye & see you in the next time! AsiaTourAdvisor can arrange additional customized trips for you if the above itinerary does not match your expectations.

Coc Ly a is a medium sized minority peoples market where every Tuesday the tribes from the surrounding villages come to buy and sell goods and meet friends. You will find Flower H’mong (Red H’mong), Black Dao, Nung, Dzay and Tay peoples in attendance and the goods on offer range from local fruit and vegetables to livestock, handicrafts and clothes.

Although tourism is developing fast in the region, many locals still live a very basic life. Most of them spend all day long working on the fields. It’s so easy to find a small market in any villages, they sell what their families do not need in markets, Coc ly market, too. And with the money they make, they buy something else. It is what experts call a subsistence economy. No luxuries here.

Fantastic package tour

AsiaTourAdvisor arranged for us at a package tour  10 Days from the north to the south of Vietnam. We had many unforgettable memories during 10 days with AsiaTourAdvisor but the best time we had is in Sapa with a private day tour at Coc ly market and another day of private trekking around Sapa. We usually like to travel without guide but we wanted to learn about tribal culture and see beautiful landscape. All I can say is that I am really glad we booked this tour. Our guide My was amazing, spoke a perfect English and taught us everything about the black Hmong tribe that she belongs too. We took shortcut path during the trek to avoid many tourists and ate in more local places. If you’re looking for a cultural immersion, amazing trekking and want to support social tourism I would definitely recommend AsiaTourAdvisor

Great Sapa experience

Our family was booked the Sapa tour with AsiaTurAdvisor. Our tour was trekking and visiting market. We really enjoyed our trek. They met us at Lao Cai station when we arrived. From there we walked to the guest house (in town) to have a look at a map and talk about what we would see that day. Our guide was a Black Hmong woman about 23 years old with perfect English. From the town we descended down the hill through rice paddies on a path only a local would be able to follow. Before lunch we passed through 2 local villages with 2 types of minorities. Lunch was spent overlooking a river. There was a choice between a couple of dishesAfter lunch we continued our walk through 1 more minority village. The walking ended around 4pm. We finished a little early so our guide actually spent time walking us around the Coc Ly market then we returned to Lao Cai station. It was a great tour with the good guide, good food and have the great experience about Vietnam Tour. Best regards,

This was an amazing experience with AsiaTourAdvisor. We took the full day walking tour with a private guide and it was a journey to say the least! MAKE SURE to pay for waterproof shoe rental as the trail is very muddy and your shoes will certainly get destroyed.

Our tour guide was amazing and she was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. The sights on the trek were breathtaking and we can’t recommend this tour enough!

Really Quite Superb

Just got back from a wonderful experience walking in the mountains with our guide Mu. The scenery was amazing. The weather mixed, very sunny, very misty. Even the mist had its bonuses. There is nothing more beautiful than walking through the mist and a group of wood collecting Black Hmong in their beautiful clothes suddenly appearing and disappearing. Then walked to Mu’s friend who cooked lunch for us. There was lots of food. The whole family joined in. We walked on to Mu’s sisters house. Where we were staying the night. Had another huge meal. Lovely family. Lots of fun with the children. Massive breakfast of pancakes. We trekked back to the pick up point. An amazing experience. The best part was Mu. Her care of us when walking, her concern for us. Offering to carry my coat. Offering her arm in the muddy parts. Chatting to us about her and our lives. Wonderful.

We booked a trip to Sapa through Asia Tour Advisor Office. We had an excellent guided walk around the villages, which was very informative and enjoyable despite almost constant drizzle. Our young guide was friendly, knowledgeable and very professional.
The market is very intriguing place; hairdressing, raw meat stalls (pigs heads/offal included), usual tourist stuff, tribal costumes, lots of food & cattle (horses, buffalo, goats, oxen etc.) Various Hmong tribes people including Flower, Tu Di, Tay & Giay Hmong ladies doing their shopping etc. A little different to the usual market days us British usually attend!
