Reviews:

The first time I visited Halong Bay was on a Heritage Cruise on my honeymoon. This cruise left a good impression on me.

  • Amenities

When booking this Heritage Cruise, I snagged an Ocean Suite on the second deck, a sweet 33 square-meter spot with killer views.

The room was all about those big windows, letting me admire the sunrise and sunset. I loved the private balcony with sunbeds. Perfect for just kicking back and taking it all in!

The cruise's amenities catered to every need. There was equipment rental for entertainment, baggage storage for convenience, and a helpful concierge service.

Newspapers were around if you wanted to catch up on what's happening in the world while being surrounded by the sea's vastness.

They even added a fully equipped fitness center to help me stay active while enjoying panoramic ocean views. On the sundeck, there was also a lounge for socializing or quiet moments and a swimming pool for a rejuvenating experience.

And for those moments of pure relaxation, there's the onboard spa. A massage was the cherry on top after a day of exploring.

Regarding the dining area, I have nothing to complain about with their restaurant and bar. The food is delicious and clean. Drinks are moderately priced for a luxurious and comfortable trip like this.

  • My itinerary

At around 8:00 AM, they picked us up at our hotel and whisked us away on a scenic ride along the highway to Tuan Chau Harbour.

Upon reaching the cruise at noon, we were welcomed with refreshments. Then, we boarded the cruise boat and received a thorough cruise briefing and safety instructions. After understanding all the information, they guided us to check into our Ocean Suite in just 5 minutes.

At lunch, I have compliments for the taste of the dishes. But what I appreciate most is the staff's dedication. They pampered us with exceptional care, ensuring they met every dietary need.

With our stomachs satisfied, the cruise ship was at Lan Ha Bay. The captain sailed through every little presence of other yachts; this makes me think we are the only ones on this bay.

After that cruising experience, the vessel approached Three Peach Beach. The crew instructed us to change clothes to go swimming. They even showed me a perfect spot to sunbathe on this beach.

Then, we returned to the deck to watch the sunset. The sunset that day was the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen, with the combination of water, sky, and limestone mountains.

Evening activities included a cooking class followed by a memorable dining experience in the restaurant.

The night continued with the squid fishing activity. They had local experts to teach me everything about fishing, from casting the rod to removing squid from the fishing line.

Day two dawned with a Vovinam session on the sundeck, followed by breakfast. Then, a speedboat ride took us to Viet Hai Village, where we explored on bicycles and witnessed the local lifestyle. After lunch in the village, we cruised through Cai Beo Village.

Because I like squid fishing so much, I continue to participate in this activity. And my wife went up to the bar to chat with new friends she had just met.

On the third day, the highlight was visiting Dark & Light Cave. We climbed on a boat and had a local rower take us to explore. This guy told me many stories about this cave.

Then, we returned to the boat for checkout at around 9:00 AM and enjoyed brunch as we cruised to the harbor. Upon arrival, they arranged a limousine to take us to our hotel. Our trip ended at 4:00 PM.

#2. Capella Cruise - Best For Top-Notch Amenities

Capella Cruise

Capella Cruise

Itineraries:

  • Day 1: Cruise on Halong Bay, visit Frog Lagoon (with kayaking), watch the sunset, join a cooking class, participate in squid fishing, watch movie

  • Day 2: Do Tai Chi exercise, explore Viet Hai Village (with bicycle ride), relax at Three Peach Beach (with swimming), watch the sunset, participate in squid fishing

  • Day 3: Do Tai Chi exercise, visit Dark & Light Cave on a boat

Highlight Service & Facilities:

  • Private balcony

  • Bay-view bathtub

  • Free WiFi

  • Bar

  • Jacuzzi pool

  • Inflatable water slide

  • Mini golf course

  • Cigar & Poker Club

  • Tai Chi

Price: From $360/person

Reviews:

Last year, my group booked a Capella Cruise for our summer vacation. And the experience we had was amazing, with the best amenities!

  • Amenities

On this Capella Cruise, opting for the 32 square-meter Oasis Suite on the first floor, the first thing that caught my eye was the private balcony and the bay-view bathtub.

I chose this room type because it offered connectivity and flexibility, with two interconnecting suite sets. With this design, we can enjoy this trip together in the most fun way.

On this cruise, I found a Jacuzzi pool and even the inflatable water slide, bringing promising laughter and exhilaration. What made me wow was the mini golf course.

Moreover, the cigar-poker club offered a space to savor premium cigars, engage in friendly poker games, and enjoy the company of fellow connoisseurs in an intimate setting. At this price, I couldn't have expected it to be so comfortable.

  • My itinerary

After taking us to the cruise and instructing us on check-in procedures, the crew warmly led us to our room location.

After having lunch, we started by exploring Frog Lagoon. Our host, Tom, and his team were amazing! They made sure everything ran smoothly. At this lagoon, they provided kayaks for us to explore this place.

When returning to the cruise in the late afternoon, we got a cooking demo and a Happy Hour program while watching the sunset.

After dinner, we tried squid fishing. We caught a lot of squid, and the chef even helped us make a few bowls of noodles with them. The night ended with an outdoor movie under the stars and free popcorn.

On Day 2, we visited Viet Hai Village after having a Tai Chi class and breakfast. The tour guide led us to a bicycle rental shop and enabled us to cycle through the streets of this village.

After we were tired, we had a delicious lunch at a restaurant. The food here is very suitable for our group's taste, everyone compliments it.

We reached Three Peach Beach for a chill swim in the afternoon. Then, we returned to the ship for a graceful tea ceremony and relaxing at the Jacuzzi pool. Day 2 also included the Happy Hour, like on Day 1.

In the evening, instead of squid fishing like the night before, we went to the bar to enjoy cocktails under the night sky. We talked for a long time before going to bed.

On Day 3, the last destination was the Dark & Light Cave, a stunning cave with traditional boats. When we arrived, several boats were waiting with rowers.

After exploring the cave, we returned to the ship to head to the harbor. The trip concluded at around 4:00 PM when we arrived at Hanoi.

Each day in this itinerary brought new adventures and surprises, making it a trip to remember on the waters of Halong Bay.

#3. Orchid Classic Cruise - Best For Diverse Activities

Orchid Classic Cruise

Orchid Classic Cruise

Itineraries:

  • Day 1: Cruise on Halong Bay, visit Trung Trang Cave (with kayaking), swim in Tra Bau, watch the sunset, join a cooking class, participate in squid fishing

  • Day 2: Do Tai Chi exercise, explore Viet Hai Village (with bicycle ride), cruise on Lan Ha Bay, watch the sunset, participate in squid fishing

  • Day 3: Do Tai Chi exercise, visit Frog Pond (with swimming and kayaking)

Highlight Service & Facilities:

  • Private balcony

  • Ocean views

  • Jacuzzi bathtub & shower

  • Free WiFi

  • Restaurant & bar

  • Tai Chi

Price: From $295/person

Reviews:

I booked a spacious luxury room at Orchid Classic Cruise to surprise my wife on our wedding anniversary three years ago. Let me tell you my experience with it.

  • Amenities

For the best experience on this Orchid Classic Cruise, I booked the Exclusive Suite on the second floor. This 45-square-meter haven featured a comfy king-size round bed. The room had a sitting area and a balcony with stunning bay views.

Inside, the suite was like a home away from home. Although it was a bit old, it was clean with all the amenities we needed. It had an LED TV with satellite channels for entertainment, and they even threw in some free water.

The minibar was handy, and there was a little table with chairs. The wardrobe provided enough space, and the bathroom was quite fancy, with a shower, a Jacuzzi bathtub, and a toilet.

The sundeck was perfect for catching the sunset, chilling on a sun lounger, or feeling the breeze under the stars.

I liked the restaurant because it had a warm and romantic vibe with the wooden colors. Then there was also a spa, which was private and had modern gear.

  • My itinerary

The carefully curated itinerary on this cruise was a blend of scenic exploration, cultural discovery, and moments of relaxation. Upon arriving at the harbor in the morning, the crew welcomed us warmly with a glass of water like other cruises.

At noon, the tender transferred us to the ship. Following the check-in, we had lunch in the luxurious onboard restaurant.

My wife is currently on a diet, and they prepared a separate menu for her with healthy and low-calorie dishes. We appreciate this thoughtfulness.

While we enjoyed lunch, the cruise set sail through Halong Bay, passing Con Vit, Da Chong, and Gia Luan. Then, we headed to Cat Ba.

The first stop at Cat Ba was Trung Trang Cave. The second one was Tra Bau. At Tra Bau, we swam in the crystal-clear waters.

Even though I had been informed of the schedule in advance, I did not expect that in just one short afternoon, they would arrange so many activities.

Returning to the cruise, we watched the sunset, joined a cooking class, and had a delightful happy hour at the bar.

Personally, the sunset programs on this cruise are more fun than on others because the crew knows how to stir up the atmosphere and get everyone to participate fully.

Our second day was filled with adventure at Viet Hai Village. We rode our bikes through the trails, admired the fields, and took photos of the rustic countryside.

The afternoon of Day 2 took us to an untouched area of Lan Ha Bay. The captain drove the ship around the bay so we could see it to the fullest.

Returning to the ship at around 5:00 PM, we had time to rest, relish the seascape, and enjoy the last night on this cruise.

On Day 3, after the Tai Chi class and breakfast, canoes transferred us to explore Frog Pond. There, they guided us to swimming and kayaking.

At around 8:30 AM, we returned to the cruise for check out, followed by a delightful brunch at 10:00 AM. By 11:30 AM, the cruise journey concluded at the harbor, and our bus transferred us back to Hanoi.

Personally, I found day three to end a bit early. I wish we could have explored Frog Pond for another hour or so. Anyway, it was a memorable trip.

No one wants a bad experience on a 2-night cruise that does not suit their wishes. The notes below will help you choose the best cruise for your trip.

Consider Where You Want To Go

When picking the perfect 2-night cruise, the first thing you need to ask yourself is where you want to explore. Halong Bay might be the obvious choice, but there are also the nearby Bai Tu Long and Lan Ha Bay.

They all share the same features, with limestone pillars, caves, and turquoise water, but each experience is different.

  • Halong Bay

Being the most famous, Halong Bay is a UNESCO site. Cruises from Bai Chay Pier or Tuan Chau Harbor take you to iconic attractions like islets, Ba Hang Village, Sung Sot Cave, Ti Top Island, and Luon Cave. It's breathtaking, no doubt, but it attracts many tourists.

  • Lan Ha Bay

Situated south of Halong Bay, Lan Ha Bay is a hidden gem known for its pristine beauty and lower tourist numbers.

The landscapes are just as breathtaking as Halong, featuring clean water, beaches, and Cat Ba Island with its evergreen forests. Cruises typically start from Binh/Beo Pier.

  • Bai Tu Long Bay

Located north of Halong, Bai Tu Long is huge, with small islets, sandy beaches, and a chill vibe. It's less explored than Halong Bay, making it perfect for those who cherish wild nature, appreciate tranquility, and want to avoid crowds.

Bai Tu Long Bay

Bai Tu Long Bay

Consider The Prices

Halong Bay has different cruise options to fit different budgets, and breaking down the costs can help you plan better.

  • Mid-range cruises

The three options I recommend are all mid-range cruises. For a mid-range 2-night cruise, prices usually start from around $200/person. Depending on which cruise company you choose and what they offer, prices can go up to $300 or more.

These mid-range cruises strike a balance between comfort and cost with the basics. Some can even host special events or meetings, making them versatile.

  • Luxury cruises

If you're in the mood for a splurge and want the fanciest experience, get ready to spend more. Luxury Halong Bay cruises for 3D2N can range from $500-$1000/person or more.

These cruises are about luxury, with big rooms, top-notch dining, and extras like hot tubs and minibars stocked with fancy wine.

But remember, the prices can change depending on the time of year, with busy seasons usually being more expensive.

Consider The Cruise's Itinerary

Consider The Cruise's Itinerary

Consider The Cruise's Itinerary

The journey's route, destinations, and activities play a role in shaping your experience. Below is the list of what should be in the cruise's itinerary:

  • Famous spots

If it's your first time in Halong Bay, you definitely want to check if the cruise is taking you to the famous places in Halong Bay, including Sung Sot Cave, Ti Top Island, and Ba Hoang Village.

  • Hidden places

If you want a quieter experience, look for cruises that go to less popular places like Bai Tu Long or Lan Ha Bay. These spots are as pretty as the famous ones, but fewer people go there. It's like having your own private adventure.

  • Fun activities

See what the cruise has planned for you to do. Maybe they have kayaking, swimming, hiking, or visiting fishing villages.

Some cruises even have cool stuff like squid fishing, Tai Chi classes, or cooking lessons like the three options I've recommended. Ensure the activities match what you like to do to have a good time.

  • Sunset and sunrise views

Halong looks super amazing during sunrise and sunset. Check if the cruise lets you see these moments. Some cruises plan stops or activities during these times so you can see the bay when it looks extra beautiful in the morning or evening.

  • Being flexible with the weather

Lastly, check if the cruise can change plans if the weather isn't great.

Weather can be unpredictable, and you want a cruise that can adapt to keep you safe and comfy. A good itinerary thinks about the weather and makes sure you have a smooth and enjoyable trip.

Read Reviews

You've already sorted out the cost, the plan for your trip, and the bay you like. Now, let's read reviews, especially on TripAdvisor.

On TripAdvisor, travelers who've just been to Halong Bay spill the beans about their trips. They talk about what they liked and didn't like, giving you a sneak peek into their experiences.

So, reviews on TripAdvisor are usually honest. People say what they really think about different parts of their cruise, from how good the food is to how devoted the staff is.

Reviews can also help you catch any potential problems. If lots of reviews talk about the same issues, like bad service or not-so-great rooms, it's a sign that you might want to be careful.

If you have chosen a cruise that meets your expectations, please refer to the following notes to make the most of your travel time!

What To Pack For Your Trip?

When packing for your 2-night cruise, focus on having all the essential documents, personal items for comfort, good shoes for safety, and a medical kit just in case.

  • Documents and ID

For adults, pack a valid citizen ID or passport. And for kids, pack a passport or a birth certificate with an ID code. Send this info to the cruise at least three days before you depart.

  • Personal items

Bring along personal items to keep things comfy and clean. Pack hand sanitizer, towels, shampoo, and shower gel; this helps prevent skin issues or infections, especially when using shared bathrooms.

Also, toss in swimwear for water fun, a camera to capture moments, sunscreen for sun protection, and a wide-brimmed hat to keep the sun at bay during your water adventures.

  • Footwear

Choosing the right shoes matters for safety and comfort. Go for shoes with low soles that are soft and firm or sandals with a solid, low sole. Comfy and secure shoes mean you can move around the cruise without worries.

  • Medications

Get a basic medical kit ready with some essential meds. Throw in bug repellent to shoo away insects, digestive medicine for tummy issues, anti-seasick drugs, and allergy meds if you need them.

What To Bring On The Cruise?

What To Bring On The Cruise?

What To Bring On The Cruise?

  • You can't bring anything that could catch fire or substances that are not allowed.

  • You're advised not to bring your own snacks or meals on board because the cruise has its own plan for meals. They have a schedule and are ready to serve you delicious food when it's time to eat.

  • Don't bring your own drink because the cruise has its own bar. They've curated a selection of beverages to ensure having a delightful experience on the water.

Diet Restriction

Remember to let the cruise team know if you have any special dietary needs so that they can take care of you better.

For example, if you have specific foods you can't eat or if you follow a diet, they'll make sure your meals suit your needs. If you have allergies, the kitchen staff will avoid using ingredients that might cause an allergic reaction.

By sharing your diet info, you're helping the cruise team provide better service. It's all about keeping you safe and ensuring your trip is worry-free.

Notes For Seasick/Carsick Passengers

If you're prone to seasickness or carsickness, a 2-night cruise can still be an enjoyable experience with a few handy tips to keep in mind.

  • Choose the right cabin location.

When booking your cabin, opt for a location that minimizes motion. Cabins closer to the ship's center tend to experience less rocking motion than those at the front or back.

  • Pack motion sickness remedies.

Bring your preferred motion sickness remedies, including over-the-counter medications, wristbands, or patches that help alleviate symptoms. These remedies can be a lifesaver if you feel queasy during the cruise.

  • Choose fresh air

If you start feeling queasy, step out into the fresh air. Head to the open deck and take in deep breaths. Sometimes, being in a well-ventilated area with a breeze can help alleviate symptoms.

  • Eat light and avoid strong smells.

Stick to light, easily digestible meals. Avoid heavy, greasy foods that may contribute to discomfort. Additionally, steer clear of strong smells, as they can intensify nausea. Opt for bland snacks if you need to munch on something.

  • Consult the cruise crew.

The crew on your cruise is there to assist you. Don't hesitate to contact them if you're experiencing persistent motion sickness. They may have additional remedies or suggestions to make your journey more pleasant.

  • Stay hydrated

Dehydration can exacerbate motion sickness, so ensure staying well-hydrated throughout the cruise. Drink water regularly, especially if you spend time on the sundeck or engaging in physical activities.

Notes For Kids

When embarking on a 2-night Halong Bay Cruise with kids, you should choose a cabin that accommodates your family comfortably.

Family cabins or interconnected rooms are often available, providing the necessary space for everyone. Check with the cruise operator to explore the best options for your family.

Don't forget to emphasize the importance of safety to your kids. Ensure they understand basic safety rules, such as wearing life jackets. Familiarize them with the location of emergency exits and the assembly point in case of any unexpected situations.

Besides, check with the cruise operator about kid-friendly activities on board. Some cruises offer special programs for children, including games, storytelling, or even cooking classes.
