Sapphire Cruise Halong Bay Review: Overall Impression

Sapphire Cruise Halong Bay Review

Sapphire Cruise Halong Bay Review

I'm all about nature and not so much about the typical tourist scene. So, when I laid eyes on the Sapphire Cruise, I was seriously wowed.

The first sight of the cruise was a pleasant surprise: it looked beautiful and super new. The cabins have private balconies and even Jacuzzi bathtubs. Honestly, it was beyond what I expected.

What made this journey even more special was the Captain's choice of a different route. Instead of the typical path, we zigzagged through hundreds of islets and islands. It was a refreshing break from the crowded spots, and I felt like I was exploring a hidden gem in Halong Bay.

One of the best parts of the trip was the activities. I went kayaking in a peaceful spot, swam in the bay, and tried backflips and somersaults. It was so much fun and something I'll never forget.

The food on the Sapphire Cruise was a treat. Every meal was not only delicious but also looked beautiful. Eating with the backdrop of Halong Bay made it even more special.

The vibe on the cruise was lively, and I appreciate the crew's commitment to ensuring everyone enjoyed themselves.

The staff were energetic, super friendly, and always ready to help. Their dedication to ensuring everyone had a fantastic time was evident in every detail. It felt like being taken care of by friends.

If I had to point out a downside, it would be the high prices of drinks on board. But honestly, considering how amazing everything else was, it was a minor thing.

I highly recommend the Sapphire Cruise to anyone looking for a mix of luxury, adventure, and the stunning beauty of Halong Bay. It's a trip that will stay with you for a long time.

That's my general feeling about this Sapphire Cruise. In the next section, I'll describe my experience on this cruise ship's 2D1N and 3D2N tours.

Types Of Tours Sapphire Cruise Halong Bay

I had the opportunity to experience both Sapphire Cruise's 2D1N and 3D2N tours. When I first learned about Sapphire Cruise, I booked the 2D1N tour. The first experience was good, but the duration was a bit short.

Then, I decided to book the 3D2N tour for the next vacation. And below is my experience with these two tours!

Note:

Sapphire Cruise's cabin price does not include shuttle service to Halong Bay. You’ll pay an additional fee when you choose a shuttle to and from the bay.

If you want to move on your own, please be at Tuan Chau Harbor as requested by Sapphire Cruise before 12:00 PM.

I find the 2D1N itinerary a bit short to explore all the beauty of Halong and Lan Ha Bays. But this tour is suitable if you want to explore Halong Bay only.

Day 1: Explore Halong Bay

Halong Bay

Halong Bay

Sapphire Cruise's coach picked me up at 8:00 AM at my hotel in Hanoi. On the way, the coordinator told many stories about Halong Bay.

Around 11:45 AM, I got into the waiting room at Tuan Chau Harbour in Halong Bay. By noon, we hopped onto the tender and sailed to the Sapphire Cruise.

The welcome was warm. They even gave me a drink to set the tone for the voyage. The crew conducted a safety session, ensuring we were well-versed in the necessary procedures.

Then, we got the green light to check into our cabins. And those cabins were luxury with private balconies and Jacuzzi bathtubs. You heard that right. Jacuzzi on a cruise! After checking in, I had time to stroll around the ship.

Then came lunch at 1:15 PM. We got seafood and local goodies whipped up by a top-tier chef. I swear, every bite felt like a party in my mouth.

The afternoon unfolded with a two-hour cruise through the tranquil bay, passing by numerous islets and islands. I had a 360-degree panoramic view of the bay's beauty on the deck.

The real adventure kicked in at 3:00 PM when the boat reached the prime spot for kayaking. Unlike the crowded beaches, our boat anchored in the bay's middle.

I love how I could dive into the crystal-clear water. The joy of taking a somersault or backflip in the middle of this stunning landscape was a highlight of the day.

Continuing our journey at 4:30 PM, we cruised towards the Sundeck, capturing the mesmerizing bay's beauty. The Sundeck became the stage for a cooking class at 5:00 PM, where our guide shared the secrets of preparing spring rolls.

As the day approached its golden hours, the boat transformed into a haven of relaxation. The Sunset Party at 5:45 PM brought together fellow travelers.

We enjoyed fresh fruits, made new friends, and basked in the soft tunes of light music against the backdrop of the setting sun.

At around 7:00 PM, we have dinner with fusion dishes that look like they belong in an art gallery. All thanks to the Chef's skills in both preparation and decoration.

By 8:30 PM, it's free time. I spent this time star-gazing, wandering around, and chilling. When I was tired, I returned to my room and had a good sleep.

Day 2: A Short Cruise On Lan Ha Bay

Lan Ha Bay

Lan Ha Bay

We kicked off the day at the crack of dawn, around 5:45 AM on Lan Ha Bay. Then, we joined Tai Chi on the upper deck. It was the perfect kickstart for the day!

Post-Tai Chi bliss, a light breakfast was a delightful start. I've got pastries, coffee, and tea. They were the right fuel for the adventures ahead.

At breakfast, I had the opportunity to watch the sun cast its first rays on the never-ending beauty of Lan Ha Bay.

The morning's highlight unfolded at 7:00 AM as we embarked on boats to explore the Dark & Light cave and its surrounding islets.

It was like stepping into a world of mysterious and wild beauty, surrounded by the karst formations that make Lan Ha Bay unique.

Then, I returned to the main board around 8:15 AM. At around 9:15 AM, it was time to check out of the cabins.

Brunch at 09:45 was a culinary farewell. The chef pulled out all the stops for our last onboard meal and every bit was a fusion of flavors. While we enjoyed brunch, the ship continued its trip to the mainland so we could enjoy the sights.

At 11:00 AM, we hopped onto the tender, leaving the cruise behind and heading to the harbor. At 11:45 AM, our return trip to Hanoi began, marking the official end of the tour at Tuan Chau Harbour In Halong.

Personally, I prefer this 3D2N itinerary to the 2D1N itinerary because I got to explore Lan Ha Bay and participate in more activities during the trip.

Day 1: Explore Halong Bay

Similar to Day 1 in the 2D1N itinerary.

Day 2: Explore Lan Ha Bay and its village, cave, and beach

During the whole trip, I liked this second day the most. That day was an absolute rollercoaster of experiences, a mix of early morning tranquility, village exploration, and the thrill of cruising through the stunning Lan Ha Bay.

The day kicked off around 6:30 AM with an invitation to the early birds for a sunrise Tai Chi activity on the deck.

The sun slowly painted the sky with hues of pink and orange as we moved through the graceful Tai Chi moves. It was the kind of magic that set the tone for an unforgettable day.

By 7:00 AM, I had a breakfast (buffet) with coffee and juices. The spread included an assortment of pastries, including croissants, muffins, and Danish pastries.

Around 8:00 AM, the real deal began. We got picked up at Tra Bau and took a boat trip to Lan Ha Bay. The scenery was nothing short of breathtaking as we sailed toward Viet Hai. Disembarking at 9:00 AM, the next adventure unfolded.

The clock struck 10:00 AM, and we hopped on bicycles for a 5 km trip to Viet Hai. It’s a small village in Lan Ha Bay tucked amid the jungle and surrounded by the towering mountain ranges of Cat Ba Park.

Note: You can ask for electric cars if you're not up for cycling.

Returning to the dock at 11:30 AM, the captain continued to sail to the other side of the bay. At noon, the boat anchored for lunch.

From 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, they allowed me to kayak around Tai Queo, a cave leading to a lake that felt like a Dragon Eye. The thrill of paddling through this mystical landscape was something out of a fantasy.

Then, we kayaked to Three Peaches Beaches and swam in these crystal-clear waters. By 4:00 PM, we reached Tra Bau and watched the sunset here.

Then, the coordinator took us inside to have dinner at around 6:00 PM. Like the previous night, we were free to explore or rest after dinner. I even made a few new friends that night.

Day 3: A Short Cruise On Lan Ha Bay

A Short Cruise On Lan Ha Bay

A Short Cruise On Lan Ha Bay

Day 3 on this 3D2N journey was a bittersweet symphony of final moments, morning serenity, and a farewell to the captivating beauty of Lan Ha Bay.

In the early morning, I did Tai Chi exercises with others. Then, by 6:30 AM, a light breakfast was served in the restaurant.

It was a delightful spread of pastries, coffee, and tea. The morning was filled with freshly baked goods' aroma and the warmth of hot beverages.

Between 7:00 AM and 8:15 AM was the last stage, the journey to Dark & Light cave and its surrounding islets on boats.

Our local boat guides steered us through a maze of islets. It was wild out there, mysterious, and every turn had us discovering a new nook of this natural wonder.

At 9:15 AM, the time had come to check out of the cabins, and our cruise was drawing close to the land. Then, we had brunch at 9:45 AM, a final feast that celebrated the flavors of the journey.

By 11:00 AM, we left the cruise ship, boarding the tender that would take us to the harbor. Then, the return trip to Hanoi began, and by 11:45 AM, our tour concluded at Tuan Chau Harbour.

Sapphire Cruise has four room types: Deluxe, Premium, Suite, and Suite On The Top. Among them, Suite On The Top is the most luxurious room on the top floor of the ship.

Room Details:

  • 18 square meters

  • On the first floor

  • Double to quadruple beds

  • Beach view

  • 1-4 persons

  • Jacuzzi

  • All meals

  • Private balcony

Situated on the first floor, the Deluxe Room was a haven of tranquility. As I swung open the door, the first thing that caught my eye was the private balcony. Stepping out, I was greeted by the vast expanse of the bay.

With 18 square meters, it cleverly maximized space, creating an atmosphere of business without compromising on the feeling of openness. The decor was a blend of modern elegance and authentic charm.

I love the Jacuzzi bathtub in this room. After a day of exploration, sinking into the warm bubbles while gazing out at the bay through the window was pure bliss. Believe me! It was a touch of luxury that elevated the entire experience!

Deluxe Room

Deluxe Room

Premium Room

Room Details:

  • 20 square meters

  • On the second floor

  • Double to quadruple beds

  • Beach view

  • 1-4 persons

  • Jacuzzi

  • All meals

  • Private balcony

The Premium room also has a balcony, Jacuzzi bathtub, bed options (double, twin, triple, or quadruple), and all meals.

However, these rooms are a bit bigger (20 square meters) and are located on the second floor with six rooms; this means more space and better views.

The added elevation provided a unique vantage point for taking in the breathtaking scenery. I loved watching the sunrise and sunset from this room's balcony.

Premium Room

Premium Room

Suite Room

Room Details:

  • 22 square meters

  • Double to quadruple beds

  • Beach view

  • 1-4 persons

  • Jacuzzi

  • All meals

  • Private balcony

The Suite room is 22 square meters, providing a spacious environment with thoughtfully chosen decor and plush furnishings.

Being the only suite cabin on the second floor added to the sense of privacy and tranquility. It felt like having a personal retreat within the larger context of the Sapphire Cruise.

What makes this room stand out is its large private balcony. This balcony quickly became my favorite spot on the cruise.

The outdoor furniture provided a comfortable perch to take in the sky's changing colors, the rhythmic dance of the waves, and the stunning limestone karsts that adorned the horizon.

Like other rooms, this one has a Jacuzzi bathtub. The feeling of soaking in this bathtub was as good as other rooms. But its larger space made me want to soak in it forever.

For those looking for the utmost in relaxation and beauty, the Suite room was an exquisite choice. It promises a cruise filled with moments of pure indulgence and unparalleled natural wonders.

Suite Room

Suite Room

Suite Room On The Top

Room Details:

  • 22 square meters

  • On the third floor

  • Double to quadruple beds

  • Beach view

  • 1-4 persons

  • Shower bathtub

  • All meals

  • Private balcony

My first impression of this room is luxury. It's on the top floor and was a standout, providing 22 square meters of comfort and elegance.

As one of only two suites on the third floor, it provided a secluded and privileged retreat within the heart of the Sapphire Cruise.

Like Suite rooms on the second floor, it has a large private balcony, offering an ocean view that feels almost surreal.

Being situated on the top floor meant an unobstructed panorama of the vast expanse of the ocean; this is definitely the selling point of this room type!

Unlike other rooms, this top-floor suite doesn't feature a Jacuzzi. Instead, it offers a shower bathtub.

Personally, the shower bathtub still provided me with a delightful way to unwind. The focus here was on simplicity and practicality, allowing guests to enjoy a refreshing shower while taking in the panoramic ocean views.

Cleaning And Safety Practices

The Sapphire Cruise takes cleanliness and safety seriously to ensure passengers have a worry-free and comfortable journey in Halong Bay.

  • Cleaning practices

When I checked in, I found the room was clean, and the furniture was not dusty. The staff regularly cleaned and disinfected cabins and common areas, especially high-touch surfaces like doorknobs, light switches, and remote controls.

They wiped down surfaces, changed linens, and generally made sure everything was spick and span using approved cleaning products.

Wandering around, I found hand sanitizer stations in different areas of the cruise; this made it easy for passengers to keep their hands clean and reduce the risk of spreading any potential germs.

In the dining areas, the kitchen crew followed strict hygiene rules, including proper ingredients handling, regular cleaning of kitchen tools, and ensuring food was prepared and served safely.

  • Safety practices

On my tours, the cruise crew wore protective gear like masks and gloves to keep everyone safe. Also, essential safety features like fire extinguishers and life vests were available in every cabin.

The cruise provided instructions to passengers about safety protocols and emergency exits. We were informed (and ready to respond if anything unexpected happened).
