Seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites and a further 7 on their tentative list, a site included on the list of The Seven Wonders of Nature, the largest cave in the world, two of the greatest cities in Asia and incredible mountain top scenery. From either Halong Bay or Hanoi it is possible to travel directly to Sapa. This astonishing Mountain top city and province is extremely popular with trekkers and people in search of that peaceful getaway. Hundreds of rice paddies carved into the hillside create a wonderful mosaic of patchwork greenery on the very sides of the mountains. The mountain range here includes Vietnam’s highest peak, Mount Fansipan and is in fact the bottom end of the Himalayas. Admire the poetic beauty of Moc Chau

The vast and beautiful Moc Chau Plateau attracts visitors all four seasons. Also in this region, Moc Chau district bears witness to some of the most astonishing countryside in the country. The largest cave in the world – Son Doong Cave

In the central regions of Vietnam, it is a short distance between the coast and the hilly border with Laos. It is in this region that in 2009 the world’s largest cave was unveiled to the people of the world. It was originally found in 1991 by a local man, but the whistle of the wind and the roar of water rushing through the cave, brought with it great fear to superstitious local people. They kept the secret of the truly incredible Son Doong Cave to themselves. It is some six times bigger than the previous largest cave in the country. One single chamber measures five kilometres in length, is 200 metres high and 150 metres wide. The cave, in Ke Bang National Park was recently named in a list of see-before-you-die destinations by Buzzfeed.

Hoi An Ancient Town – The beauty of time and ancient times

On the coast in this region the incredible Ancient city of Hoi An is to be found. This year it was named as one of the top ten cities in Asia. Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, this perfectly preserved city is one of the finest examples of an Asian trading port anywhere. It used to have the largest deep sea port in the region until it started silted up. As Da Nang growth coincided with this, Hoi An became something of a ghost town. This couple with the area’s dry climate meant that it was preserve exactly as it was two hundreds years ago.

Cua Dai Beach – the most unique beach in Central Vietnam

Just outside Hoi An the fabulous Cua Dai Beach has become one of the big attractions in the area. It is an idyllic long golden sanded beach fringed with thatched beach huts. The beach resorts here represent tremendous value and are a great asset to the whole area. In 2013 Trip Advisor and Celebrity magazine named this as one of the top twenty five beaches in all of Asia.

Sai Gon – the quintessence of Vietnam

In the south of the country lies the largest city in Vietnam, the architecturally beautiful Saigon. Renamed Ho Chi Minh City in honour of the countries favourite son, it is still known by its older more romantic name to most people. Seven million citizens reside in this thriving modern city. French colonial buildings, ancient Asian architecture and superb modern glass towers all rub shoulders in this monument to city design. It’s broad, sweeping, tree-lined boulevards, make this unlike any other Asian city.

Cu Chi Tunnels – A place to record the resounding history of Saigon

Close by here are the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels. They have become a popular destination on the tour scene. This incredible network of more than 200 miles of tunnels, were utilised to great effect by the Vietcong in the war with the South. Vietcong troops lived here for months on end in shocking conditions, surfacing only to forage for supplies and to engage the American forces from time to time. More died from disease than from battle injuries.

Ho Tram – Mui Ne beach: Overview of the most beautiful coastal road in South Vietnam

A ninety minute drive from Saigon are the Ho Tram and Mui Ne Beaches. These are both excellent beach areas and were named as two of the best value for money beaches by Skyscanner. At Hom Tram Strip the brand new Grand Casino is open for business. Boasting large American style gambling halls and some of the finest rooms in Asia, this is set to develop over the coming years. Building work commences next year on phase two including another casino resort and a full 18 hole golf course.

Discover heaven on earth – Con Dao

Off the south coast of the country the island of Con Son lies in the Eastern Sea. Part of the Con Son Archipeligo it is home to Con Dao Prison. Established by the French, it had the reputation of being one of the cruelest on the planet. In the Vietnam War it was used by the Americans to torture and intimidate Vietcong prisoners. The hellish tiger cages became a feared method of abuse. Cramped and cut, the prisoners where whipped and beaten and had salt water thrown on their wounds. Shocking photographs later appeared in Life Magazine.

Phu Quoc – an attractive destination for tourists

Further round the coast, actually closer to Cambodia, lies the extraordinary island of Phu Quoc. It is here that Bai Dai beach earns its reputation of one of the best 100 beaches anywhere in the world according to CNN. The golden sands and crystal clear waters are a magnet for beach lovers everywhere. Scuba and snorkelling here, is just about as good as it gets. Now having its own airport, getting their couldn’t be easier.
